JAY MERRIN, CLU, CH.F.C.

Jay graduated from Wilfred Laurier University in 1968 with a degree in economics.

Upon graduation, he joined the Canada Life Assurance Company and spent the next 28 years with them in sales, as a regional manager and as the the Director of Training in Canada responsible for sales and management training, the company's estate planning department and technology.

In 1996 he established his own financial planning firm. The focus of Jay's practice is working with individuals to define their financial goals and objectives, develop strategies and tactics to achieve those goals, then assist them in structuring and implementing investment and insurance programs.

He is  member of the ADVOCIS (Financial Advisors Association of Canada) and holds both the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations.

As an active member of his association, ADVOCIS, Jay served as the President of the Kingston Chapter in 1983, program chair for the Niagara Chapter in 1996 & 1997. He was also active in the former Life Insurance Managers Association of Canada serving as the Chair for the Quinte St. Lawrence chapter and acted as a moderator for several years for the Life Managers, Management Development Program. 

While at Canada Life he was active at the national and international level with both the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association and the Life Insurance and Management Research Association in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1983 and 1989 Jay's agency in Kingston was the recipient of the Company's  Presidents Award  for the best overall performance of an agency in Canada, the only agency in the Canadian Division of the company to be twice recognized with this achievement.

He has been an active member of many community organizations and in 1989 was recognized by the Kingston and District Chamber of Commerce as their Business Person of the Year for his business and community involvement.
